She showed us video  fragments to increase the awareness of the problems of objective observation. www.dothetest.co.uk

Lunch

Venue: Kamilleplein

Theme: relations with companies and neighborhood in education

The” Kamilleplein ideas” were presented by Mrs. Albertien Vrieling.

There are two different courses: “Fashion and  Clothing” and “Product Presentation”, both EQF level 2. She showed us the practical workplaces, where pupils were sewing clothes, “kimonos” in a project called : “ China ” . One other pupil was showing a “pimped” second-hand table and some other were busy to change the display window. They were going to start a small shop, open to the public,  were the pupils could sell there self-made products and the idea is that it will promote the contacts with the local  public from the district.

And she told us about the ideas around the collaboration with partners as the second-hand-store “2Switch”, the public housing company and the municipality. They started about 9 months ago, so there is a lot to develop!

Venue: Korianderstraat

At “Korianderstraat” Mr. Martin Stam showed us the practical workplaces where Youngsters and grown-ups can be trained in metal works, wood carving, printing and logistics. Most on EQF level 1.

But main part at that time was to compare the specific qualifications as earlier decided:

Theme: Comparing one specific qualification

We selected a qualification and a task we thought was common in all our countries:

Helping elderly persons in a residential setting with their personal care ( washing, dressing)

We wanted to know how this was described in the qualification documents in each country.

We wanted to know if the method of describing helps APL or that it makes the work of the assessor  more difficult.

This was the task all partners had to do.

Holland

The relevant section  of the Dutch qualification nurse: workproces 1.2 Support in personal basic care.

Spain

The overview of the Spanish qualification Professional Qualification: Geriatric attention to dependent people in social institutions

The relevant section of the Spanish qualification: RP 1: Maintaining users in good hygienic conditions, providing assistance

according to their needs

Finland :

Overview of the qualification Practical nurse

Objectives, core contents and assessment of studies nursing and care

Part II requirements of the competence-based qualification

United Kingdom

Relevant part of the qualification, support the care, protection and well-being of individuals

A few conclusions:

Qualification documents are large but very different. The main differences are abstract vs concrete and in measure of detail .  For example, in the Dutch file for a nurse level 4 were only a few senteces about "giving personal care" and  in the Spanish one several pages. In detail it is easier for the assessor but then he has less possibility to use his own personal professional opinions to assess the candidate. We did not come to a conclusion on the issue "what is better"…

Presenting the staff training of assessors and coaches in APL in Spain by Ascensión Romero Gotor

The Spanish government has published Royal Decree 1224/2009,  in which the requirements for an assessor are described.

Presenting the staff training of assessors and coaches in APL in Finland by Hellsten Eeva

The PPT presentation is as an attachment at this report.

Conclusions:

United Kingdom has a Formal Qualification (NVQ) for assessors.

These are the requirements for that NVQ

Spain has concrete documents for assessors to meet requirements. A training has been described by the government, but is not yet executed.

In Finland is how to become an assessor a part of the academic study for teachers.

In The Netherlands there is a job description, but the necessary competences has to be filled in by the trainer, based on the suggestions of the APL-supplier.

Dinner at ‘GoedProeven’:

sd

Presentation of Culinary and Hospitality Academy by Mrs. Thirsa Kros and Mr. Franklin van Reem, owner of this restaurant..

They told us about the ideas around the C&H Academy : there is an approval between some large and smaller enterprises in catering and hospitality. They are going to organize workshops for “top-students” from the courses in Catering and hospitality at EQF level 4. There is a narrow collaboration between the managers / owners of the restaurants and the Regional Vocational Education Center .

Especially the attitude from the students is a “hot item”, much more than technical things as cutting, cooking and so on. The aim is to get better qualified personal.
